NSLS X-Ray High Pressure Research Workshop:
Current operation and vision into NSLS II

Dear Colleagues:

In view of rapid advances of in situ high pressure research using synchrotron x-rays in the world and growing demands for the use of such high-pressure facilities in the US, we would like to invite you to participate in a COMPRES sponsored NSLS X-Ray High Pressure Research Workshop: Current operation and vision into NSLS II. The workshop focuses on future scientific and technical directions of the high-pressure facilities at the X17 beamline of the National Synchrotron Light Source (NSLS). These facilities, including both diamond anvil cell and multi-anvil presses, have long played a leading role in many research areas and also served as a test bed for technique and equipment developments for new high pressure experimental stations at the third generation synchrotron sources. Generated by a superconducting wiggler, the x-ray beam remains competitive when compared with all other x-ray sources in the country. We wish to generate a strategic plan to keep this beamline internationally competitive as a high-pressure user facility. This strategic plan will stimulate input into the next COMPRES proposal and will help guide us to the next generation source, NSLS II.

Please join this important event and offer your valuable advice pushing forward the research frontier of our community as a whole. The workshop will allocate a large fraction of time to discussions in addition to a few presentations. Based on the discussions at the workshop, a report of recommendations will be submitted to COMPRES regarding the operation and scientific direction of the X17 beamline for the next five year period.
