The Mineral Physics Institute (MPI) is a research institute of Stony Brook University dedicated to understanding the present state of the Earth from its surface to its core, as well as its evolution through time. Our approach is to study Earth materials under the pressures and temperatures found within the interior by conducting a wide variety of experimental and theoretical investiagations. With small quantities of sample and experiments lasting hours to days, we try to simulate and understand the processes that control the Earth system and its responses. Our overarching goal is to provide a window into the deep Earth's interior in order to gain a fuller understanding of the composition, structure, and the past, present, and future processes that play a role in shaping not only the Earth, but other planetary bodies as well.

There are many exciting things going on in the Mineral Physics Institute at Stony Brook University. To see what's new in the world of MPI, be sure to visit the News and Updates page.
